# Third-Party Licenses

FlyBrain contains **no copied third-party source code**. The table lists every external work the mod uses, bundles or was built on, and how.

| Work | License | How it is used | Bundled in the JAR? |
|---|---|---|---|
| MaleCNS v1.0 connectome (Janelia FlyEM, University of Cambridge, MRC LMB, Google) | CC-BY 4.0 | Neurons, synapse counts, cell types and neurotransmitter predictions of a flight subnet, converted by `tools/build_brain.py` | **Yes**, as `malecns_flight.fbrain` (adapted: subnet selection, weight thresholding, binary format) |
| FlyWire connectome v783 (Dorkenwald et al. 2024, Schlegel et al. 2024) | CC BY-NC 4.0 (per flywire.ai; the Zenodo record says CC-BY, so the stricter license is assumed) | Optional; users download it and build a subnet locally | **No**, never bundled. The mod is distributed on a platform with monetisation, which NonCommercial data would conflict with |
| Shiu et al. 2024, *Drosophila computational brain model* (code: github.com/philshiu/Drosophila_brain_model) | MIT | Model equations and parameters re-implemented in Java from the paper; no code copied | No |
| Minecraft Forge 47.4.10 | LGPL-2.1 (Forge), Minecraft EULA (game) | Mod loader API, runtime dependency | No |
| Brian2 (optional external Python reference) | CeCILL-2.0 | Only for offline validation in a separate process | No |
| NumPy, pandas, PyArrow, SciPy (tools/build_brain.py) | BSD-3-Clause / Apache-2.0 | Offline data conversion only | No |

Works that were read for research but whose code is **not** used: blendi-remade/fly-brain-minecraft (MIT), AshtonLong/fruitfly-brain-mod (license unclear), Eon Systems fly-brain (GPL-2.0, deliberately avoided), flyvis (MIT), flybody / flygym (Apache-2.0).

## CC-BY 4.0 notice for the bundled data
The file `assets/flybrain/brains/malecns_flight.fbrain` is an adapted subset of MaleCNS v1.0. License: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/. Changes made: selection of a flight-relevant subnet, dropping connections below 3 synapses or 1 % of input, sign assignment from predicted neurotransmitters, and conversion to a binary format. The original authors do not endorse this mod.
