Axes

Clear The Woods!

The Axe doesn't just chop a log - it reads the whole tree. One swing at any log fells the entire trunk, strips the connected canopy, and (usually) replants a fresh sapling behind you. It also swings noticeably harder than a vanilla axe, so it doubles as a solid weapon in a pinch.

"Fell it. Feed the forest. Move on."

How the Scan Works

The moment you break a log, the axe flood-fills outward through every touching log of the same species (up to 1,000 blocks, so even a mega-jungle tree is safe to chop). It keeps expanding as long as it keeps finding matching logs in the full 3x3x3 neighborhood around each one - so it happily follows branches, not just a straight trunk.

What Counts as "a Tree"

Before anything gets felled, the axe checks that what you hit actually qualifies:

Fail either check and you'll get a friendly warning in chat instead of a forest disappearing under you.

The Replanting Rule (read this one twice!)

This is the part players ask about most, so here's exactly how it behaves:

In other words: aim low if you want a clear patch, aim a block or two up the trunk if you want the axe to tidy up after itself. For "giant" multi-trunk trees (2x2 Dark Oak, Jungle mega-trees) this can replant several saplings at once, one per base log, minus the exact stump you clicked if that stump happened to be at the base.

Sapling source: pulled from your inventory if you're carrying the matching sapling type - if you're not, it still plants one for free (consider it a small thank-you from the forest).

Mangrove & Nether fungus replant: Mangrove, Crimson, and Warped trees all search outward (up to 8 blocks) for the nearest valid spot instead of planting straight down, since their roots/base make "directly below" unreliable.
