World Dimension Loader 1.4.1-beta3 - First Dimension Tutorial (Public Beta Candidate)

Goal
This guide is for a first-time WDL user. You will take a COPY of one existing Minecraft world, register it as a WDL Dimension, create one Gate, open it with a WDL Igniter, and enter the imported Dimension.

Keep the original world separately. Use a copy for WDL.

This guide shows two ways to make the same setup:
- Method A: Workbench GUI (recommended for first-time users)
- Method B: direct Config editing

Both methods use:
- Dimension ID: test_world_01
- Gate ID: test_world_01_gate

------------------------------------------------------------
Before either method: prepare the copied world
------------------------------------------------------------

1. Install WDL and start Minecraft once so WDL creates its Config files.
2. Exit the world/game before copying files when practical.
3. Copy the world you want to import into this folder under the Minecraft game directory:

WDL_custom_dimensions/test_world_01/

4. Confirm this file exists directly inside that folder:

WDL_custom_dimensions/test_world_01/level.dat

With the default Common Config, WDL_custom_dimensions is the Dimension root. You do not need to edit common.toml for this tutorial.

Method A - Workbench GUI (recommended)
============================================================

1. Open the WDL Workbench

Use:
worlddimensionloader:wdl_workbench

The Workbench is an administrator tool. Use Creative mode with permission level 2 or higher.

2. Register the Dimension

1) Open Dimensions.
2) Choose Create.
3) Open the source-folder chooser.
4) Select test_world_01.
5) Confirm the ID is suggested as test_world_01. If needed, enter test_world_01 yourself.
6) Leave the other fields at their defaults.
7) Save.

That is enough for the first Dimension. You do not need to configure the advanced pages for this tutorial.

3. Register the Gate

1) Open Gates.
2) Choose Create.
3) Choose test_world_01 as the destination Dimension.
4) Confirm or enter the Gate ID test_world_01_gate.
5) Leave the other fields at their defaults.
6) Save.

The default Gate settings already work for this tutorial: obsidian frame/corners, LIST destination to the selected Dimension, a 10-second open time, no activation cost, and normal WDL Igniters allowed.

4. Build the physical Gate

Use obsidian for the complete frame, including the corners.
Make the inside opening 2 blocks wide and 3 blocks high.

Front view:

OOOO
O..O
O..O
O..O
OOOO

O = obsidian
. = empty inside space

5. Open the Gate and enter

Use a Basic Dimension Igniter:
worlddimensionloader:basic_dimension_igniter

Use it on the matching obsidian Gate frame. On a normal successful activation, one Basic Dimension Igniter is consumed.

When the Gate opens, walk through it.

If you enter test_world_01, your first WDL Dimension setup is complete.

WDL_ITEMS_AND_RECIPES_EN_1.4.1-beta3.txt

============================================================
Method B - Direct Config editing
============================================================

This method creates the same Dimension and Gate without using the Workbench.
Back up config/worlddimensionloader/ before editing it manually.

1. Use the same copied world

WDL_custom_dimensions/test_world_01/level.dat

2. Add the minimum Dimension definition

Open:
config/worlddimensionloader/dimensions.toml

Add:

[[dimensions]]
id = "test_world_01"

For this minimum definition, id is the required value. When folder is omitted, WDL uses the same value as id, so this definition reads:

WDL_custom_dimensions/test_world_01/

Other Dimension settings use their defaults.

3. Add the minimum Gate definition

Open:
config/worlddimensionloader/gates.toml

Add:

[[gates]]
id = "test_world_01_gate"
dimensions = ["test_world_01"]

For this minimum definition:
- the non-empty dimensions list makes the omitted selection_mode behave as LIST;
- the frame and corners default to obsidian;
- the default size range includes a 2 x 3 inner opening;
- the default open time is 10 seconds;
- no cost is configured;
- normal WDL Igniters are allowed by default.

4. Reload the Config

After saving dimensions.toml and gates.toml, run:

/wdl scan

A full game/server restart is also acceptable for this tutorial.

5. Build, open and enter the same Gate

Build the same obsidian frame with a 2 x 3 inner opening, use a Basic Dimension Igniter on it, and walk through the opened Gate.

If you enter test_world_01, the Config method is complete.
