In Derpswen I aim to make gameplay harder. By making monsters more stealthy, I make them more fit for survival and more fit to catch you. I try to implement the wilderness' essence of quiet, peaceful stillness, the mysterious atmosphere, and the haunting, lonely feeling of being alone in its vastness.

I try to add the little details in nature to Derpswen. A fallen branch in a forest. A cracked log. Chiseled faces on logs, the lonely call of a loon. Algae, or clover - and very many more details.

I try to capture the psychology of nature in Derpswen. The feeling of that the universe is emotionless, that it does not care if you die. The feeling that it does not care if you are lonely. That there is no heroic music when fighting an enemy. Simply, you must fight to live. You always will have an advantage, but there is always a disadvantage.

You can be in peril one night and wish for the sun to come up faster, but it still goes as its own pace. It does not stop, nor does it quicken. It will rise soon, but if you die before then, you have lost the battle. You no longer receive. You are dead.

You can be dead, but the universe goes on. Time goes on. It does not feel sympathy. You have lost the battle. It is over for you now, forever.

Safety and rescue can be just right out of reach. It will not come for you. You have to fight to reach it. If you can't, it still does not care.

Ah, it's all emotionless, but it is beautiful. Although nature doesn't care about you, it does in a way. You are your own team. You're your own faction surviving together and fighting all the
other organisms and beings striving for another place in this universe for your own survival. Your body cares for you. Your soul must care for your body. Even if you don't, nothing changes, only your body changes.
And that's because you've neglected it. It's simply natural law, cause and effect. It's good law, and it is the law by which everything and everyone abides - even if it doesn't want to.
Ah, the Golden Rule. Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. That is natural law.
Even though you may be dead or hurting, the universe will go on, nor faster nor slower. It seems as if it doesn't care, or doesn't know. Everything is poetic, as like in a play.
